The Essex Law Student-Athlete Scholarship ($4,000 Annually)
All too often, children from communities that don’t have strong financial literacy programs think that the path to financial freedom is sports and athletics. And the Foundation understands that path is limited and has its own difficulties to navigate. But the Foundation also recognizes that student-athletes do have different academic and athletic options, and we want to provide a student with the option of pursuing both — academics and athletics — with the hope that they will improve their lives through education and gain financial security and knowledge through the experience.

The Essex Law Student-Athlete Scholarship awards $4,000 annually (one lump-sum payment made directly to the college choice of the student) to a deserving student-athlete with a minimum high school grade point average of 2.5. In addition, the Foundation will strongly consider factors such as individual and family financial needs, the student’s desire to pursue financial literacy educational opportunities, and different obstacles that the family faces such as single parent or dysfunctional households. This consideration will also include the student’s extracurricular activities all through school.
As Jamaur Law, the founder and Executive Director of the Board of Jamaur Law Foundation, said, “As a former athlete at Rochester PA Area HS, athletics were very important to me. Admittedly, athletics was a bigger focus than academics. Knowing that academics should have been my greater focus, I want to award a scholarship that helps a student-athlete excel in both and relieve some of the financial burden of the cost of college.”
